DEMO: Keep track of your expenses from anywhere with Tastr’s Xpenser

Tastr is one of 65 companies chosen by VentureBeat to launch at the DEMO Spring 2010 event taking place this week. These companies do pay a fee to present, but our coverage of them remains objective.
Expense tracking has historically been a tedious and time-consuming affair. Xpenser, a new offering from Tastr, aims to reduce the headaches involved by making it simple to track your expenses from anywhere.
The free service is more streamlined than the traditional process of collecting receipts and trying to remember to record all of your expenses at later date. Xpenser’s wide variety of options allows you to mark expenses as soon as they occur — for example the moment you get out of a cab, or the minute your check arrives for lunch. You can call in the expense via your cell phone, or use text messaging, e-mail, instant messaging, Twitter, and more.
Once you’ve collected your expenses for a trip, you can edit them via Xpenser’s web interface, and export them to your favorite financial application. Reports can also be download as PDF and Excel files. It also supports receipt storing — you can take a picture of a receipt with your phone and mail it to the site, or scan it in on your computer and upload it via the web interface. Xpenser also supports tagging and categorizing of expenses on its website, and you can also configure budgets and mileage tracking.
Xpenser competes with similar offerings Concur and Expensewire. Unlike rival services, Xpenser is free to use, and it offers a much simpler (in a good way) web-based interface as well.
Tastr, a San Diego, Calif.,-based company, is funded by its founder, Parand Tony Darugar.
