BrightEdge lands $6.5M more for SEO management platform

BrightEdge, a search engine optimization management platform, today announced that it has secured a second round of funding for $6.5 million. The new funds will be used to expand engineering and operations for a growing customer base as well as to ramp up marketing and sales.
BrightEdge is an online search engine optimization (SEO) platform that helps customers manage their SEO programs — programs to improve the quality and volume of website traffic from search engines. The platform lets you track and report traffic and analyze your competition.
SEO is an important strategy for any company online. The ultimate goal is to appear higher in a search rankings from engines like Google or Yahoo. A company, for example, that sells cell phones would want to optimize it’s content, whether text, video or images, around words and phrases similar to the words “cell phone” in order to appear higher within search results and, thus, increasing the chances of that individual visiting their website.
Various companies offer services to help optimize content for search engines and management platforms, including SEO Samba, which happens to be the top search in BrightEdge’s space of ”SEO management platforms.”
The Foster City, California-based company, started in 2007, claims an impressive group of team members from top web companies, including Digg and Salesforce.com. As part of the new funding, a Battery Ventures partner as well as former Google manager Satya Patel, who helped build the AdSense business, will join BrightEdge’s board of directors.
The round was led by Battery Ventures, with existing investors Altos Ventures and Illuminate Ventures also participating.
