Popular e-book community Wattpad today announced that it plans to launch a redesigned website tomorrow. The new Wattpad.com, which can be seen here in beta testing, has a much cleaner look and user interface. The site will also host several enhanced user functions, including advanced search, social elements, and multimedia support.
Wattpad is completely community driven and all content is uploaded by users. Writers have found Wattpad to be especially useful as it allows them to upload their writings and gain feedback as well as suggestions. The enhanced functions of the new site appear to be geared towards creating and sharing content more easily. The upgraded search makes sense, users might become frustrated if the large amount of created ebooks aren’t easily found. Multimedia support for uploading YouTube videos and artwork was also made easier. Social elements include being able to find writers as easily as the content. The community appears to be growing as the company claims over 10 million monthly visits and some 250,000 community created e-books.
The company has been busy this year. Recently, Wattpad announced that it had secured an undisclosed Angel round of funding from lead by Harvey Beck and Alan Levine, former co-CEOs of ICOM and Bert Amato, co-founder of Delrina. Funding would be used to continue growth around mobile capabilities and ebook sectors. The company then announced that some of its most popular e-books would be available on the Sony’s Reader store.
Wattpad had previously announced that an iPad application would be available for the devices launch and it does appear to be available within the iTunes store.
